- During your care, visits are approximately every 4 to 6 weeks until 28 weeks of pregnancy, then they are every 2 to 4 weeks. A few weeks before your estimated due date, you see the midwife weekly until you have your baby.
- Prenatal appointments consist of a clinical check-up, including blood pressure and weight. Your baby is monitored at visits by measurement, palpating position, and listening to the fetal heart rate.
- You will meet more than one midwife during your care so that you will know the midwife at your birth, regardless of the midwives call schedule. It is important to us that you are able to feel comfortable with your care provider at your birth.
- Appointments usually last about 30 minutes (with the exception of the first and last appointments, which are longer). During this time, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, as well as discuss topics relevant to your current stage in pregnancy. Our informed choice discussions will include evidence based research, clinical experience, risks and benefits, as well as any recommendations that are particular for your individual care.
- Midwives offer all of the same tests as doctors during pregnancy. We try to maintain a holistic perspective that focuses on preventative health, minimizing interventions, and using medical technology only when needed. We are also on call 24/7 for any urgent or emergency concerns.
- We support women making educated, informed choices so that they can feel comfortable with their decisions, with the hope that you come into motherhood with confidence and feeling relaxed and secure.
